RCB's Remarkable Winning Streak In IPL 2024: Echoes Of Past Triumphs

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have made a remarkable comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, securing a playoff spot after six consecutive wins. This turnaround comes after a seven-match losing streak, proving critics wrong with a decisive 27-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 18 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Faf Du Plessis' team was initially written off from finishing in the top four. However, their recent performance has extended their winning streak to six matches, marking their second-longest winning streak in IPL history. They now aim to match their best-ever streak with a win against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 Eliminator on May 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

RCB's IPL 2024 Winning Streak

RCB had previously achieved a seven-match winning streak in the 2011 edition of the IPL. They also recorded five-match winning streaks in the 2009 and 2016 editions. Their recent victory over CSK has bettered these records, but can they surpass their past achievements?

Previous Five-Match Winning Streaks

IPL 2009: RCB first achieved a five-match winning streak in 2009 after winning just four of their first ten matches. They extended this streak to five by defeating CSK in the semifinal, securing a spot in the final. However, they lost to Deccan Chargers by six runs in the title clash at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

IPL 2011: In 2011, RCB improved their win streak from 2009 and reached the final again. They went from one win in five matches to finishing first in the points table. Unfortunately, they lost to CSK by 58 runs in the final at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

IPL 2016: After winning four of their first ten matches, RCB went on a four-match winning streak to secure a playoff berth. They extended this run to five matches before losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. This marked the third time RCB reached an IPL final after a significant winning streak but failed to clinch the title.

The Royal Challengers hope to better their past performances in 2024. To match the record for most wins in an IPL season, they need victories against Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator, Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2, and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final.

KKR holds the record for the longest winning streak in IPL history with nine consecutive wins in 2014, including the final against Punjab Kings. They extended this run to ten with a win in their first match of the following season.
