RCB Finds New Strength Beyond Kohli: Du Plessis Highlights Team Effort
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis has expressed relief over his team's recent performance uplift in the Indian Premier League (IPL), highlighting a reduced dependency on star player Virat Kohli. RCB's victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad by a comfortable margin of 35 runs has injected a dose of optimism into the team, especially after narrowly missing a win against Kolkata Knight Riders by just one run in their prior match. Despite these successes, RCB still finds itself at the bottom of the league standings but is approaching upcoming matches with renewed confidence, breaking a disheartening six-match losing streak.
Du Plessis acknowledged the critical role of collective effort in overcoming the challenges faced in the early stages of the competition. "For the first half of the tournament, it was only Virat contributing," he noted, emphasizing the importance of a unified batting lineup. Kohli's consistent performance, including a notable 51 against SRH, alongside Rajat Patidar's rapid 50 off 20 balls and Cameron Green's all-round contribution, underscored this shift towards a more balanced team effort.

Australia's all-rounder Cameron Green also shone in the recent match, not only with his bat scoring 37 not out but also with his bowling figures of 2-12 from two overs and a crucial catch to dismiss SRH's Heinrich Klaasen. Du Plessis praised the team's hard work over the last week and a half to enhance their gameplay, resulting in visible confidence among the players. "You can't speak confidence into the group; the only thing that gives confidence is performance," he remarked, highlighting the importance of actual game performance over mere encouragement.
Green shared his initial skepticism about Du Plessis's decision to bat first against SRH but admitted it was a move that ultimately paid off. He credited the captain and coach for their brave call, which went against his own judgment at the time. Reflecting on his catch to dismiss Klaasen, Green humorously noted his focus on not letting the opportunity slip through his fingers.
Looking ahead, RCB is set to face Gujarat Titans in back-to-back matches, first away on Sunday and then at home on May 4. With a blend of individual brilliance and collective effort marking their recent performances, RCB aims to climb up from their current position at the bottom of the standings, carrying forward their newfound momentum and confidence.
