RCB Surpasses Teams With Most Sixes In IPL 2024 Following Win Against CSK
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured the top spot for the most sixes by a team in IPL 2024 after a 27-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday, May 18, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This win also confirmed RCB's place in the final playoff.
Virat Kohli led the charge with 47 runs off 29 balls, hitting four sixes to bring his season total to 37. Rajat Patidar also contributed four sixes in RCB's innings after being asked to bat first. Skipper Faf Du Plessis and Cameron Green added three sixes each, while Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik also contributed to the tally.
RCB set a target of 219 runs, taking their total number of sixes to 157, making them the first team in IPL history to surpass the 150-mark in a single season. In response, Rachin Ravindra and Ravindra Jadeja hit three sixes each for CSK, while Ajinkya Rahane and Mahendra Singh Dhoni added one each. However, CSK could only manage 191 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
The ongoing IPL season has witnessed nearly 1200 sixes in 68 matches, suggesting a potential new record for total sixes in a season with at least six more matches remaining. Previously, Sunrisers Hyderabad had broken the single-season record for most sixes by a team.

Mumbai Indians currently hold the record for most sixes by a team in IPL history, followed closely by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Both teams have smashed over 1600 sixes. Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders have all hit over 1400 sixes.
Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals are next on the list, followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad. The newer teams, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, are around the 300-mark.
