RCB's Launch Of Hindi Social Media Page Provokes Kannada Fans Amid Language Tensions
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has stirred controversy among some Kannada fans by launching social media pages in Hindi. This move comes amid ongoing language and identity tensions in Bengaluru, where clashes have occurred between Kannada and Hindi speakers, as well as between locals and migrants.
The situation in Bengaluru has become increasingly tense, with online debates escalating into physical confrontations. The Indian Premier League (IPL) team now faces criticism for potentially exacerbating these issues by introducing Hindi content.

RCB recently launched social media pages in both Kannada and Hindi. While the Kannada page was welcomed, the Hindi page received mixed reactions. Some fans argue that this undermines the city's Kannada culture. According to Times Now, RCB defended their decision, stating their goal is to "reach out to a larger audience" and eventually offer content in multiple languages.
Some Kannadiga fans questioned the necessity of separate language pages. They demanded the Hindi page be deactivated or deleted, urging others to block or report it as spam. Despite launching a Kannada page first, RCB's latest move may have strained relationships with local fans.
A user on X questioned whether RCB would stop at Hindi or introduce an Urdu page next. They also wondered if other teams like Delhi Capitals would launch pages in Kannada or other regional languages.
Another user warned that RCB might face more backlash from Kannada fans, questioning the need for a Hindi page. A fan expressed disappointment, saying, "As a proud Kannadiga and Bengaluru-based RCB fan, it's disheartening to see our franchise using Hindi in their social media posts. Bengaluru represents Kannada culture and language, and RCB should respect this by prioritizing Kan-Eng in their communication," using the hashtag Stop Hindi Imposition.
Diverse Opinions Among Fans
Meanwhile, another section of the fan base questioned why language should matter so much. They pointed out that RCB is part of the Indian Premier League and not exclusive to Bengaluru or Kannadigas alone.
Last year, RCB connected well with fans by changing their name from Bangalore to Bengaluru. However, despite launching a Kannada page before a Hindi one, their recent actions may have damaged some of those connections.
