IPL 2024: RCB's Chase Strategy Against CSK Could Secure Playoff Spot
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will have a bit more flexibility than usual if they are chasing the target against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday, May 18.
RCB are set to play CSK in a virtual knockout match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The winner of this match is likely to advance to the playoffs.

RCB have an inferior Net Run Rate compared to CSK and need to win by a sizeable margin to qualify for the playoffs. According to calculations, if RCB score 200 runs, they will need to win by a margin of 18 runs.
If RCB are chasing the same amount, they will need to win with 11 or more balls to spare. However, RCB will have some room in this scenario.
If Virat Kohli and his team are chasing the target against CSK, they will need to finish the match with 11 or more balls to spare only if they score one more run than CSK's total. Hence, if CSK score 200 and RCB win by scoring 201, they will need to finish within 18.1 overs.
If RCB score more than one run compared to CSK's total, they will have a bit more time:
- If RCB score two runs more than CSK's total, they can finish the match by 18.2 overs.
- If RCB score three to five runs more than CSK, they can extend the match to 18.3 overs.
- If RCB level the score with CSK and then hit a six to win the match, 18.4 overs is the maximum time they can take.
