IPL 2024: Dhoni's Monumental Six Assists RCB In Playoff Qualification

RCB secured a significant victory over Chennai Super Kings to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. Their star player, Dinesh Karthik, highlighted MS Dhoni's six as the moment of the match.

RCB scored 218 runs after batting first at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. CSK could only manage 191 runs in their chase, losing the match by 27 runs. Although the Super Kings needed 201 runs to qualify, they couldn't achieve it after an excellent last over by Yash Dayal.

Dhoni's Six Aids RCB's Playoff Spot

Dayal was hit for a six by Dhoni on his first ball but then made a strong comeback. He conceded just one run and picked up a wicket, helping RCB secure their place in the playoffs with their sixth consecutive victory.

After the victory, Karthik was seen giving a speech in the RCB dressing room, where he humorously picked Dhoni's 110-metre six as the moment of the match.

"The best thing to happen today was Dhoni hitting that six outside the ground, and we got a new ball, which was much better to bowl with," Karthik said after the match.

"Yash, that was good bowling. When in doubt, always bowl a hip-high full toss on leg stump. Wherever he is, it's a good mantra to follow when the ball is wet," Karthik humorously added.

MS Dhoni picked up the bones out of a Yash Dayal full toss in the final over of the game. He flicked it to the leg side and hit it for a massive 110-metre-long six. The ball cleared the boundary and stadium, necessitating a new ball.

Karthik opined that Dhoni's hit helped Dayal and Royal Challengers Bengaluru as a new ball allowed Dayal to grip his slower ball better. Consequently, the immediate next ball saw MS Dhoni's departure.
