RCB's Best Playing 11 For IPL 2025: Key Players And Lineup Strategies After Auction

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) shifted their strategy at the IPL Mega Auction 2025. They moved away from spending excessively on a few players to create a more balanced team. Historically, RCB had invested heavily in overseas stars, filling the rest of the squad with less prominent players.

Before the auction in Jeddah, RCB retained only Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal. With Rs 83 crore in their purse, they were expected to secure a marquee Indian player. However, they chose not to pursue KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, or Shreyas Iyer.

Instead of splurging on top Indian players, RCB surprisingly bid over Rs 20 crore for Venkatesh Iyer. Ultimately, he joined Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 23.75 crore. Missing out on Iyer allowed RCB to focus on strengthening key areas of their squad.

RCB ended the auction with a 22-member squad and Rs 75 lakh remaining. Opinions are mixed about their performance at the auction. Some experts feel the absence of a renowned spinner might be a disadvantage for the team.

The lack of a fast bowler and limited left-handed batting options could also pose challenges for RCB in various matches. Having retained only three players from their 2024 squad, they needed at least nine immediate picks.

RCB reacquired former players Manoj Bhandage, Swapnil Singh, Josh Hazlewood, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. They also added Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Tim David, Jitesh Sharma, and Krunal Pandya among others to strengthen their lineup.

After missing out on a left-handed top-order batter initially, RCB secured Karnataka's Devdutt Padikkal in an accelerated round after he went unsold earlier. This addition bolstered their batting options significantly.

The team also included Jacob Bethell, Nuwan Thushara, and Romario Shepherd as overseas players along with Mohit Rathee, Swastik Chikkara, and Abhinandan Singh to complete their squad for IPL 2025.

Projected Lineup for IPL 2025

Kohli is likely to captain again and open alongside Phil Salt. Liam Livingstone and Rajat Patidar will form part of the top four batsmen. If needed for balance, Devdutt Padikkal can be used as a left-handed option at the top order.

Tim David and Jitesh Sharma are expected to finish innings strongly while Krunal Pandya will contribute with both bat and ball. Swapnil Singh may play similarly depending on match conditions.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar along with Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal are anticipated pace options while Suyash Sharma or Rasikh Salam could serve as impact players when required by circumstances during matches.
