Cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin Buys Into Chess, Joins GCL's American Gambits
Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has expanded his sports involvement by becoming a co-owner of the American Gambits. This team will compete in the second edition of the Global Chess League.
The Global Chess League, organised by Tech Mahindra and the International Chess Federation (FIDE), will take place in London from October 3 to 12. The American Gambits are replacing the Chingari Gulf Titans in this year's competition.

This league features a unique team format, with each team comprising six players. Among them are two top female chess players and a young prodigy, promoting gender diversity and nurturing young talent.
The tournament follows a double round-robin structure, consisting of 10 matches. The team with the highest points at the end of these matches will be declared the winner, making every match crucial.
Ashwin's participation brings a fresh perspective to the league, combining cricket's strategic insights with chess's intellectual demands. His involvement highlights the growing intersection between different sports disciplines.
Ravichandran Ashwin's venture into chess ownership marks an interesting crossover between cricket and chess. Chess legend Viswanathan Anand congratulated Ashwin on this new endeavour.
"Congratulations @ashwinravi99 on your exciting new venture into the world of chess! As someone who has bowled out the best in cricket, I'm sure you'll bring the same competitive spirit to the Global Chess League with the American Gambits. May your rooks and bishops be as unstoppable as your off-spinners! Best of luck in London," Anand wrote on X.
