IPL 2024: Ramandeep Singh Fined For Property Damage During Match
In a recent development from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) batter Ramandeep Singh has been penalised for his conduct during the match against Mumbai Indians on Saturday, May 11. The cricketer found himself in hot water after breaching the IPL's code of conduct, resulting in a fine of 20 per cent of his match fee.
Ramandeep Singh's actions were scrutinised under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct, marking it as a Level 1 offence. His admission to the violation and acceptance of the sanction put forth by the Match Referee concludes the disciplinary action on this matter. The IPL's statement highlighted that decisions on Level 1 breaches are final when made by the Match Referee.

The breach in question pertains to conduct that falls outside the realm of normal cricketing activities, including but not limited to, damage to property. This could encompass actions such as inadvertently yet carelessly causing harm to fixtures and fittings around the playing area. A repeat of such behaviour by Ramandeep could lead to more severe consequences, including a ban.
Article 2.20 specifically addresses actions that deviate from standard cricket actions, like aggressive behaviour towards cricket equipment or property that results in damage. This includes, for instance, a player damaging an advertising board out of frustration by hitting it with a bat, whether intentionally or negligently.
The incident occurred in a match where Kolkata Knight Riders secured an 18-run win over Mumbai Indians. The victory was particularly sweet as it ensured KKR's place in the playoffs, making them the first team this season to achieve this milestone. Despite adverse weather conditions posing a challenge, KKR managed to clinch the win. Ramandeep Singh played a pivotal role in this achievement by scoring an unbeaten 17 runs off just 8 balls, contributing significantly to his team's success.
