Rahul Dravid Eyes T20 World Cup Triumph, Sidelines Farewell Sentiments

Rahul Dravid is not focusing on his farewell as the T20 World Cup final approaches. Instead, he encourages his team to beat South Africa for their own reasons.

Before the tournament began, India coach Dravid announced that this would be his last competition in charge of the national team. Rohit Sharma's squad has responded by remaining unbeaten throughout the 20-over tournament, defeating England in the semi-finals to secure a spot in Saturday's final.

India's journey to the final has been impressive, with many fans hoping Dravid can end his tenure with a trophy. However, Dravid wants his team to seize this opportunity for themselves.

"You know, I don't really believe in this 'Do it for somebody'," Dravid said. "I love that quote about somebody asking somebody else, 'Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?' and he says 'I want to climb Mount Everest because it's there'.

"I want to win this World Cup because it's there. It's not for anyone, it's not for anybody, it's just there to win."

Their opponents, South Africa, have also remained unbeaten throughout the 2024 edition of this global white-ball tournament. They easily defeated Afghanistan in the semi-finals to reach the final.

This year's final will see one of these teams become an unbeaten champion for the first time in the tournament's history. South Africa faces additional pressure due to their history of underperforming in global finals.

Markram's Perspective

South African captain Aiden Markram believes his team can overcome past failures. He stated: "It's a game of cricket. Someone has to win, and someone has to lose ultimately. That's the name of the game. You take it in your stride."

"You do get belief, though, from winning close games and potentially winning games that you thought you weren't going to win. It does a lot for your changing room and the vibe in the changing room."
