Rahul Dravid Reduces His T20 World Cup Bonus For Team Equality
Rahul Dravid has once again demonstrated his admirable character by reducing his T20 World Cup 2024 bonus by INR 2.5 crore. As the head coach of the victorious Indian team, he requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ensure his reward matches that of the other coaches, reinforcing his principle of fairness and equality.
After Rohit Sharma led the Indian team to a triumphant victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final, the BCCI announced a substantial reward pool of INR 125 crore to be distributed among the players, coaching staff, and support staff.

This gesture by Dravid is not unprecedented. He had taken a similar stance as the head coach of India's U-19 World Cup-winning team in 2018. Initially, Dravid was to receive INR 50 lakh, while other support staff members were allocated INR 20 lakh each, and the players INR 30 lakh each.
Dravid refused to accept this disparity, insisting on an equal distribution of the rewards. Consequently, the BCCI revised the cash awards, ensuring that each support staff member, including Dravid, received INR 25 lakh.
As per the initial distribution plan for T20 World Cup 2024 bonuses, Dravid was set to receive INR 5 crore, while the batting, bowling, and fielding coaches were to get INR 2.5 crore each. However, Dravid felt uneasy about this disparity in rewards.
A BCCI source commented on Dravid's request: "Rahul wanted the same bonus money (Rs. 2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip, and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments."
Dravid's Approach to BCCI
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Dravid approached the BCCI and requested that his bonus be reduced to INR 2.5 crore. This amount would match what was given to other coaches.
Dravid's actions have consistently highlighted his commitment to fairness and team spirit. Known for putting the team's interests above his own during his playing days, Dravid continues to embody these values in his coaching career. His recent decision further cements his reputation as a leader who prioritizes the well-being and recognition of his colleagues.
