Priyansh Arya's Journey To IPL 2025: Coach Sanjay Bhardwaj Reflects On His Development And Success

Priyansh Arya's rapid ascent in Indian cricket reached a significant point when Punjab Kings acquired him for ₹3.8 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Starting with a base price of ₹30 lakh, Arya's domestic performances have highlighted his immense talent and promise.

Arya first caught national attention earlier this year during the Delhi Premier League by hitting six consecutive sixes in one over. Coach Sanjay Bhardwaj recalled that moment, saying, "I told him I wouldn't come to watch his matches unless he scored a hundred. After that, he scored three centuries. Even after hitting six sixes in an over, he showed no excitement. That's Priyansh for you-focused and grounded."

Priyansh Arya's IPL Dream Realised with PBKS

Reflecting on Arya's success, coach Sanjay Bhardwaj expressed pride in his student's natural ability. "Priyansh's attacking approach has always been there from the start, and I have never stopped him. There have been times when he couldn't perform well, but he remains calm and composed. His fearlessness sets him apart," Bhardwaj told myKhel.

Arya's parents are teachers at a government school in Delhi, and he trains under Sanjay Bhardwaj, who previously coached Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir is now the coach of the Indian national cricket team.

The auction saw intense competition today in Jeddah. Delhi Capitals initiated the bidding for Priyansh at his base price of INR 30 lakh on the second day of the event. Punjab Kings soon joined in, pushing the price to INR 1 crore.

Royal Challengers Bangalore entered the fray around this time, driving up the bid until Punjab Kings secured Arya for INR 3.80 crore due to their larger budget.

Arya's Journey and Future Prospects

The 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy had Arya as Delhi's top run-scorer, yet he went unsold in the IPL 2024 auction. However, Bhardwaj remained confident in his protege's abilities.

"Just yesterday, his father and I were having breakfast, and I told him Priyansh would go for over ₹2 crore. When Punjab Kings bought him for ₹3.8 crore, Priyansh simply said he wanted to play good cricket."

Looking forward, Bhardwaj is hopeful about Arya's future. "I just want him to play his best and leave the rest to God. Priyansh has the potential to excel, and I believe he will do well," he concluded.
