Prithvi Shaw Commits To Fitness Training Following Encouragement From Greg Chappell

Prithvi Shaw, the Indian cricketer currently out of favour, was recently spotted working on his fitness at the MCA-BKC ground. This occurred during Mumbai's Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match against Odisha. Shaw, who has faced issues related to form, fitness, and discipline, received a motivational letter from former India head coach Greg Chappell.

Shaw was observed running on a track near the ground for over 30 minutes. He was performing drills under the supervision of Mumbai Cricket Association's trainer Amogh Pandit. This effort comes after being dropped by Mumbai due to various concerns.

Shaw Works on Fitness After Chappell's Letter

In a letter accessed by Times of India, Chappell encouraged Shaw to overcome his disappointment and focus on making a comeback. He urged Shaw to aim for a return not only to the domestic team but also to the Indian national team.

"Hi Prithvi, I understand you're facing a challenging time right now, being out of the Mumbai team. It's natural to feel frustrated and perhaps a bit uncertain, but I want you to know that these moments are often the turning points for athletes, helping to shape both their careers and their character," Chappell wrote in his letter as quoted by TOI.

"I remember watching you play for India's under-19 team, where you showcased an extraordinary talent and a spark that made it clear you were among the most exciting young cricketers of your time. Those of us who recognize your potential are still keenly watching your journey, knowing that the best is yet to come," Greg Chappell wrote in a letter to Prithvi Shaw.

Chappell highlighted that setbacks are common in sports careers. He mentioned legends like Don Bradman who also faced challenges but became great through their responses. "Remember, setbacks are a part of every great athlete's story Even legends like Don Bradman experienced being dropped and having to fight their way back. What made them great was not avoiding challenges, but how they responded to them."

Reflecting on his own career experiences, Chappell shared how being dropped taught him valuable lessons. "In my own career, being dropped was one of the most humbling yet valuable experiences. It forced me to review every aspect of my game and, more importantly, my approach," he stated.

He advised Shaw to focus on each ball during practice and games rather than just results. "So I made a commitment to myself. I'd focus on one ball at a time, really seeing each delivery and responding in the moment," he explained.

Chappell encouraged Shaw to embark on self-reflection and embrace discipline in all aspects of life. "I encourage you to take a similar journey of self-reflection. It's easy to blame circumstances, but ultimately, your response to these challenges will define your path," he noted.

The former coach emphasized that Shaw's future actions matter more than past setbacks. "The past doesn't define you. Prithvi. It's what you do from here that matters," he wrote.

Chappell concluded by offering support and expressing belief in Shaw's potential: "Know that I and many others believe in you and are here to support your journey back to the top." He encouraged Shaw not to hesitate if he needed help or had questions.

This letter serves as both motivation and guidance for Shaw as he works towards regaining his place in cricket at both domestic and international levels.
