Perth Pitch Preview: Travis Head Warns Batters Of Terrifying Conditions Ahead Of Test Match
Australia's Travis Head has expressed concerns about the pitch for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener at Perth's Optus Stadium. Initial images show a green surface, which Head described as potentially "terrifying" for batters. The pitch could become challenging if it develops cracks by the third day of play.
During Australia's training sessions on November 18, media reports highlighted the heavily watered and green-tinged pitch. This preparation aligns with head curator Isaac McDonald's promise of a fast and bouncy wicket for the Test starting on November 22.

The Optus Stadium pitch is expected to favour fast bowlers, as McDonald previously stated, "We're setting ourselves up for really good pace, really good bounce, and really good carry." Such conditions are typical in Perth, but they pose difficulties for batters.
Head shared his thoughts on the Unplayable Podcast: "There are parts of this wicket that can be terrifying, simple as that. I think everyone's talked about that. Depending on where the wicket goes to on day three, four and five, it can be challenging."
If the pitch remains a green top, both teams' batters might struggle, especially those lacking recent red-ball cricket experience or form. This scenario could influence team strategies significantly.
The green surface will likely encourage both India and Australia to deploy strong pace attacks. Australia plans to field Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and captain Pat Cummins. Scott Boland is another option, while Mitchell Marsh offers all-rounder capabilities.
India's pace attack will be led by stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah. He is expected to be joined by Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep. Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana are also available options. Nitish Kumra Reddy could be considered if they need a batter who can bowl pace.
