PCB Clamps Down On Pakistan Team's Private Events Ahead Of India Match

IND vs PAK: Following Pakistan's defeat in their T20 World Cup 2024 opener against the USA in Dallas on Thursday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed strict restrictions on its players, banning them from attending private events.

Posters advertising a private event featuring the Pakistan cricket team, with an entry fee of USD 25, went viral on social media after their Super Over loss to the USA. Former cricketer Rashid Latif claimed that players altered their practice schedule to attend this event, where fans could take photos and get autographs.

PCB Tightens Rules Before India Game

"How can you Meet and Greet During and before World Cup? Why @TheRealPCBMedia allow to do private Dinners? They change practice timings for participate in commercial Dinners. Please focus on cricket and money will come automatically.. entry Fees $25.00," Latif tweeted.

The PCB has identified non-cricketing activities as a significant factor contributing to their loss against the USA. The board has issued a stern warning to players, emphasizing that any repeat offences will not be tolerated. Players have been instructed to focus solely on cricket to secure victories in their next three matches and qualify for the Super Eight round of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Fan Arrangements and Curfew Violations

Reports indicate that Pakistan-origin fans in Dallas and New York were arranging private cars for the cricketers, facilitating their attendance at meet-and-greet events. Players reportedly failed to adhere to the curfew time of returning to the team hotel by 10:00 PM. Consequently, all private events scheduled in New York ahead of the crucial match against India have been cancelled.

Tourist Visits Permitted

Despite the restrictions, players are allowed to visit tourist spots independently. Left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi was seen at Times Square in New York before the match against India at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, June 9.

Implications of a Defeat Against India

A loss against India could have severe repercussions for the Babar Azam-led team. Reports from Pakistani media suggest that failure in this match may result in several players being dropped permanently from the squad.
