PCB Allocates Rs 17 Billion For Stadium Upgradation Ahead Of ICC Champions Trophy
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has allocated around 17 billion rupees to upgrade stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. This decision was made during the PCB's Board of Governors (BOG) meeting held on Saturday in Lahore. The investment aims to prepare these venues for the ICC Champions Trophy, which will be hosted entirely in Pakistan.
The PCB's budget reflects a strong commitment to improving cricket infrastructure. Of the 17 billion rupees, nearly 13 billion will come from development funds for renovating the three major stadiums. Additionally, 4.5 billion rupees have been set aside for organizing the domestic cricket season.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the importance of these upgrades, stating that they aim to provide better facilities for spectators and transform the venues into A-class stadiums. The upgradation work has already started to ensure completion before the Champions Trophy.
In a significant move for women's cricket in Pakistan, the PCB has increased its allocation to 240 million rupees from the previous 70 million rupees. This funding boost is part of a broader effort to promote and develop women's cricket in the country.
The additional funds will improve competition levels and cricket structures while enhancing central contract fees and salaries for women cricketers and domestic players. This initiative is expected to attract more talent and bolster the growth of women's cricket.
Upcoming Cricket Season
The PCB's budget for 2024-25 includes a comprehensive plan for the upcoming cricket season. Pakistan will host several international series against teams like Bangladesh, England, and the West Indies. There will also be a tri-series before the Champions Trophy. Additionally, the national team will tour Australia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
Chairman Naqvi informed BOG members that hosting details for the ICC Champions Trophy would be further discussed at the ICC's annual board meeting in Colombo later this month. The PCB aims to ensure that this tournament showcases Pakistan's capability to host major international cricket events.
This substantial investment by the PCB underscores its dedication to elevating cricket standards in Pakistan. With improved facilities and increased support for women's cricket, Pakistan is poised to make significant strides in both domestic and international arenas.
