PCB Dismisses Rumours Of Jason Gillespie's Sacking, Confirms His Role As Test Coach

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has addressed speculation regarding Jason Gillespie's position as head coach. On Sunday, November 17, rumours circulated about Gillespie's dismissal from his role with the Pakistan cricket team.

Reports had suggested that Gillespie's tenure as head coach across all formats was ending. However, the PCB countered these claims on social media, affirming that the Australian coach would continue in his role. Initially appointed as Test coach, Gillespie also took on interim responsibilities for limited-overs during Pakistan's tour of Australia.

Under Gillespie's guidance, Pakistan achieved notable successes. They secured a historic ODI series win against Australia, their first in over two decades on Australian soil. Additionally, they triumphed in a home Test series against England.

Despite these achievements, reports emerged about Aaqib Javed potentially replacing Gillespie as head coach. It was also suggested that Gillespie was offered the limited-overs coaching role without a salary increase, which he declined. Consequently, there were speculations about his departure from all coaching duties.

The PCB has firmly dismissed these rumours, stating that Gillespie will remain as head coach for Test matches. "PCB strongly refutes the story. As announced previously, Jason Gillespie will continue to coach the Pakistan side for the two red-ball matches against South Africa," read an official statement from PCB.

Pakistan is set to face South Africa in a two-match Test series starting December 26. Before this series, they will also compete in three T20I matches against the Proteas.

This announcement clarifies the situation surrounding Gillespie's coaching role and confirms his continued involvement with Pakistan cricket in the longer format of the game.
