Pakistan Advances To Women's Asia Cup Semi-Finals Following India's Win Over Nepal

India Women secured a spot in the Women's Asia Cup 2024 final by defeating Nepal Women by 82 runs in their last Group A match at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on July 23. This victory also ensured Pakistan Women's qualification for the semi-finals.

Earlier that day, Pakistan Women had triumphed over UAE by 10 wickets and were relying on a decisive Indian win to advance. India Women delivered an impressive all-round performance, restricting Nepal to 96/9 while defending a total of 179.

Pakistan Into Asia Cup Semi-Finals

Winning the toss, India Women chose to bat first and posted a formidable score of 178/3 in three overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pooja Vastrakar were rested, with Smriti Mandhana standing in as captain but not batting.

The opening pair of Shafali Verma and Dayalan Hemalatha built a solid foundation with a 122-run partnership off 84 balls. Shafali scored an impressive 81 off 48 balls, while Hemalatha contributed 47 off 42 balls. S Sajan, batting at three, managed only 10 off 12 balls, and Jemimah Rodrigues added an unbeaten 28 off 15 balls.

Bowlers Shine in Second Half

In the second innings, Deepti Sharma excelled with the ball, taking three wickets for just 13 runs in her spell of four overs. Arundhati Reddy and Radha Yadav supported well with two wickets each, while Renuka Singh conceded only 15 runs in her four overs and took one wicket.

With this win, India Women topped Group A after winning all three of their matches. They will now face the second-placed team from Group B in the semi-finals. Sri Lanka Women are almost assured of a semi-final spot after winning their first two games in Group B.

Semi-Final Scenarios

The battle for the second spot in Group B is between Thailand Women and Bangladesh Women. Sri Lanka will play their final group match against Thailand on Wednesday evening, while Bangladesh will face Malaysia earlier that afternoon.

This series of events has set up an exciting finish to the group stages as teams vie for a place in the semi-finals. The performances so far have highlighted both individual brilliance and strong team efforts across matches.
