Venue Change For Pakistan Vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Due To Karachi Renovations

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Sunday, August 18, that the second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be moved from Karachi to Rawalpindi. This decision was made due to ongoing construction at Karachi National Stadium in preparation for next year's ICC Champions Trophy.

Initially, the first Test was set to take place in Rawalpindi on August 21, with the second Test scheduled in Karachi from August 30 to September 3. However, construction experts advised that renovation work could continue during playing hours, causing noise and dust disturbances for players.

"The PCB, in consultation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, has decided to move the second Test to Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium," PCB stated on Sunday. They added that construction noise would disrupt cricketers during matches.

PCB had previously barred spectators from attending the second Test in Karachi due to renovations. The board expressed regret over this decision but prioritised player safety and match quality.

The PCB highlighted concerns about dust affecting players' health. "Additionally, the dust from the construction work could also affect the health and well-being of the players, officials, broadcasters, and media," they said. After consulting stakeholders and reviewing logistics, PCB decided both Tests would be held in Rawalpindi.

Future Matches in Karachi

Karachi is also slated to host a Test between Pakistan and England from October 15 to 19. However, PCB refrained from speculating on this match's status given it is two months away. "At this stage, we will not like to speculate on the hosting of the second Test in Karachi from 15-19 October," PCB mentioned.

The first Test against Bangladesh will occur from August 21 to 25 in Rawalpindi. The second Test will follow from August 30 to September 3 as part of the ICC Test Championship.

This venue change ensures minimal disruption for players while maintaining match integrity. The PCB continues working closely with architects and construction experts for future events.
