Pakistan Climbs To Summit In WCL After Thrashing India Champions

In a thrilling encounter at Edgbaston on Saturday, July 6, India and Pakistan faced off in the World Championship of Legends. The match rekindled the historic rivalry between the two nations with former cricket stars taking centre stage.

Pakistan Champions secured a commanding victory by 68 runs, propelling them to the top of the points table. This win marked their third match in the tournament, giving them six points.

Pakistan Leads WCL, Beats India

The Pakistan team had an explosive start with Kamran Akmal and Sharjeel Khan. They put together a formidable partnership of 145 runs for the first wicket in just 65 balls. Akmal scored 77 runs off 40 balls, while Sharjeel contributed 72 runs off 30 balls. Their combined effort included nine sixes, setting a strong foundation for Pakistan.

India won the toss and opted to bowl first under Harbhajan Singh's captaincy. Despite their efforts, Pakistan amassed a total of 243 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Indian bowlers struggled, with RP Singh, Anureet Singh, Dhawal Kulkarni, and Pawan Nego each taking one wicket but conceding many runs.

During India's chase, Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu gave a promising start. However, Uthappa was dismissed for 22 runs. Rayudu and Suresh Raina then built a solid partnership of 61 runs. Rayudu scored 39 off 23 balls while Raina added 52 runs from 40 deliveries.

A middle-order collapse shifted momentum back to Pakistan. Yuvraj Singh managed only 14 runs and Yusuf Pathan was out for a duck, leaving India struggling at 142 for 6. Shoaib Malik and Wahab Riaz were instrumental in Pakistan's bowling success, each taking three wickets. Malik's key dismissals of Rayudu and Yuvraj significantly hindered India's progress.

Anureet Singh attempted to revive India's innings with a quickfire 20 runs towards the end but it wasn't enough. India finished at 175 for 9 in their full quota of overs.

This defeat was India's first in the tournament, keeping them third on the points table with four points from three matches.
