Pakistan Insists On Full Hosting Rights For Champions Trophy 2025, Denies Hybrid Approach
Mohsin Naqvi, the chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has issued a strong warning to the International Cricket Council (ICC) about hosting the Champions Trophy next year.
The 2025 Champions Trophy was awarded to Pakistan. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its Indian counterparts have been advocating for a hybrid model, similar to what was used in the Asia Cup.

India has long been hesitant about visiting Pakistan, and this concern persists. Reports from Pakistan indicate that PCB officials insist the tournament should be entirely held in Pakistan despite India's objections.
A report from Express News in Pakistan disclosed that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has communicated their position on the hybrid model to ICC. Pakistan has rejected this model and tasked ICC with convincing India to play in Pakistan. A proposed schedule by PCB places all India matches in Lahore to reduce travel and ensure security for visiting players.
The relationship between the two cricketing bodies could be strained due to geopolitical tensions. BCCI secretary Jay Shah is currently in Colombo for an ICC meeting where extensive discussions will occur, and a proper outcome is expected. Although BCCI has not commented on their visit to Pakistan, the final decision will be made by India's Ministry of External Affairs.
Historical Context of India-Pakistan Cricket Relations
Pakistan travelled to India for the World Cup 2023, playing matches at multiple venues. Conversely, India has not visited Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup.
The situation remains uncertain as both sides await further developments. The outcome of these discussions will significantly impact future cricketing events between India and Pakistan.
