Florida Floods Threaten Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2024 Campaign

The Pakistan cricket team is on the brink of elimination from the T20 World Cup 2024, with the flash flood emergency in Florida likely to play a significant role. The National Weather Service in Florida has issued a flash flood emergency due to heavy rainfall. The Miami weather service office has also issued increasingly severe warnings, urging residents to stay off the roads and seek higher ground.

Visuals of lightning, heavy rain, water-logged streets, and floating vehicles have surfaced online. Numerous flights were delayed or canceled at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The NHL team Florida Panthers faced a delay of more than three hours for their flight to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Floods Jeopardize Pakistan's T20 Bid

The ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 matches and team qualifications for the Super 8 round are also set to be affected by the flood conditions in Florida. The Sri Lankan team is already stranded in the city after their match against Nepal was abandoned on Wednesday due to rain.

The Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida, is scheduled to host three games over three days. USA will face Ireland on Friday (June 12), India will play against Ireland on Saturday (June 15), and Pakistan will compete against Ireland on Sunday (June 16).

Heavier rainfall has been predicted for Thursday and Friday. USA would qualify for the Super 8 round even if their match against Ireland is abandoned on Friday. They will finish the group stage with five points from four matches after sharing a point with Ireland if the match is called off.

Pakistan can qualify only if Ireland beats USA, and they register a win against Ireland in their last Group A match. India has already qualified for the Super 8 after their seven-wicket win over USA on Wednesday. Only the top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Super 8 of T20 World Cup 2024.

Canada is placed fourth in Group B and has the lowest chance of qualifying for the Super 8. They will need USA and Pakistan to lose their respective matches and then beat India by a significant margin.
