Pakistan Gears Up For Champions Trophy With Tri-Nation Series Against New Zealand, South Africa
Pakistan is set to bolster its preparation for the Champions Trophy 2025 by hosting New Zealand and South Africa before the ICC event in February-March. This will be the first multi-team series in Pakistan since 2004, when Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka participated in a triangular series.
New Zealand has never been part of a tri-series in Pakistan. Recently, a second-string New Zealand team played a five-match T20I series in Pakistan ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. However, for the upcoming tri-series, both New Zealand and South Africa are expected to field their top players.

The tri-nation series will feature each team playing two matches. The top two teams will then compete in the final. All matches are scheduled to take place at Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan.
- February 8 - Pakistan vs New Zealand
- February 10 - New Zealand vs South Africa
- February 12 - Pakistan vs South Africa
- February 14 - Final
This series marks South Africa's first triangular outing in Pakistan since 1994. In 1997, Pakistan hosted South Africa, Sri Lanka, and West Indies for a Quadrangular series. The upcoming tri-series will be an excellent opportunity for Pakistan to fine-tune their strategies before the Champions Trophy.
The Champions Trophy is scheduled to start on February 19 with hosts Pakistan facing New Zealand in Karachi. This event is significant as it will be the first ICC event hosted by Pakistan since 1996.
Pakistan aims to overcome recent disappointments, including failing to qualify for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 and being knocked out from the group stage of T20 World Cup 2024. The home advantage could provide a much-needed boost for the Men in Green.
The tri-series will serve as a crucial dress rehearsal for Pakistan ahead of the mega ICC event. With top players from New Zealand and South Africa participating, it promises to be an exciting lead-up to the Champions Trophy.
Hosting such high-profile teams also highlights Pakistan's growing capability to host international cricket events safely and successfully. Fans are eagerly anticipating competitive matches that will set the stage for an exciting Champions Trophy.
The anticipation is high as cricket enthusiasts look forward to seeing how well-prepared Pakistan is for hosting and competing in such significant tournaments on home soil.
