Pakistan Achieves Historic ODI Victory Against Australia After 28 Years In Adelaide
Pakistan achieved a significant milestone by defeating Australia in an ODI match in Adelaide after 28 years. Haris Rauf and Saim Ayub were instrumental in securing a 9-wicket victory, levelling the series. This triumph occurred during the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval on Friday, November 8.
Haris Rauf's exceptional bowling performance, taking 5 wickets for just 29 runs, restricted Australia to a mere 163 runs. Saim Ayub contributed significantly with his batting, scoring 82 off 71 balls. Abdullah Shafique supported him well with an unbeaten 64 off 69 balls, helping Pakistan chase down the target with ease.

The opening partnership between Ayub and Shafique was crucial, as they amassed a 137-run stand. Their aggressive batting included eight sixes and eight fours, bringing Pakistan close to their target of 164 runs. Shafique remained not out and later partnered with Babar Azam to secure the win.
Australia's Adam Zampa managed to take one wicket but was expensive, conceding 44 runs in his spell of 6.3 overs. Other Australian bowlers like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood failed to take any wickets and gave away more than five runs per over.
Shaheen Afridi set the tone for Pakistan by dismissing Australian openers Matthew Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk early in the innings. With only 41 runs on the board within the first powerplay, Australia's batting line-up was under pressure.
Rauf's fiery spell dismantled Australia's middle order as he claimed his second five-wicket haul in ODIs. He dismissed key players like Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Hardie, Marnus Labuschagne, and Cummins. Steve Smith top-scored for Australia with 35 runs before falling to Mohammad Hasnain.
Series Levelled and Upcoming Decider
Naseem Shah also contributed by taking two wickets before Shaheen Afridi ended Australia's innings by dismissing Zampa for 18 runs. This victory marked Pakistan's first win against Australia in Adelaide since 1996, levelling the series at 1-1.
The final match of the series is scheduled for Sunday, November 10, at Perth Stadium. Australia will miss several Test players including Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith, Josh Hazlewood, and Marnus Labuschagne for this game.
Squad Changes for Final ODI
Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson, and Josh Philippe have been added to Australia's squad for the decider in Perth. Lance Morris retains his place as cover for Hazlewood while he participated in a Sheffield Shield match for New South Wales.
