Aaqib Javed, a former player and now the convenor of the selection committee, will assume the role of limited-overs coach for Pakistan. Initially, the PCB wanted Gillespie to manage both red-ball and white-ball teams until March's Champions Trophy without additional pay. Gillespie declined, prompting the board to seek a new coach.

The PCB's decision reflects a pattern of instability within Pakistan cricket. The board's frequent coaching changes indicate a lack of long-term planning. This approach has not fostered growth but instead led to chaos and inconsistency.

Under Gillespie's guidance, Pakistan secured a 2-1 series victory against England and achieved a notable ODI series win in Australia. However, despite these successes, another leadership change is imminent.

The PCB official cited Gillespie's limited time spent in Pakistan as a reason for his dismissal, echoing reasons given during Gary Kirsten's departure. This explanation highlights ongoing challenges within the team's management structure.
