Pakistan Athletes Face Visa Denial From India Amid Ongoing ICC Champions Trophy Dispute

The ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan have extended beyond cricket, with the Indian High Commission refusing visas to several Pakistani athletes. This decision has affected participants from the Pakistan Scrabble Association (PSA), who were gearing up for the Asia Cup Youth Scrabble Championship and Delhi Cup.

Despite submitting visa applications two months prior, many players were informed that their applications would not be processed. Tariq Pervez, Director of PSA, voiced his disappointment over the lack of explanation, especially since some of these players had previously competed in India and even won.

Visa Denial for Pakistan Athletes by India

Among those impacted are Pakistan's current World Youth and Asian Youth champions. Their absence is expected to affect the tournament significantly, as it undermines the event's competitive integrity. This development adds to the already strained sporting relations between the two nations.

The situation is further complicated by an ongoing dispute over India's participation in the 2024 ICC Champions Trophy, which Pakistan is set to host. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed its refusal to send its ODI team to Pakistan, a decision that has angered the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

In response to BCCI's stance, PCB remains committed to hosting the tournament in Pakistan. The BCCI suggested a hybrid format where some matches could occur at neutral venues. However, PCB reportedly opposes this idea, and recent reports suggest this might lead ICC to consider moving the tournament to South Africa.

This latest visa denial incident exacerbates existing tensions between India and Pakistan in sports. It highlights ongoing challenges in diplomatic relations affecting athletes and competitions alike. Further developments are anticipated as both countries navigate these complex issues.
