IPL 2024: Nitish Rana On The Night Few KKR Players Had Dinner Post Loss
In a revealing insight into the Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) camp, vice-captain Nitish Rana shared a poignant moment from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Following a challenging match where Punjab Kings (PBKS) set a new record for the highest successful run-chase in T20 cricket at Eden Gardens on April 26, Rana disclosed that the mood in the KKR dressing room was somber, with only three to four players managing to eat dinner that night. This match saw PBKS overtaking South Africa's previous record by achieving a monumental chase of 262 runs with eight wickets and eight balls remaining.
However, KKR's spirits were lifted as they became the first team to secure a spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs after defeating Mumbai Indians in Kolkata. Rana attributed this season's success to the enhanced camaraderie and mutual support among team members, a crucial element he felt was absent in the past two years. "We win together and we lose together; that's the dressing room environment we have," Rana emphasized during a post-match media interaction.

The vice-captain also reflected on his personal journey this season, making a significant comeback after a finger injury sidelined him for ten matches. Despite initial anxiety and sleepless nights, Rana managed to score a vital 23-ball 33 on his return. "It seemed I was playing my first match," he confessed, highlighting his nervous anticipation and determination to excel.
KKR's remarkable turnaround this season is underscored by their current top position in the standings with 18 points, putting them in a strong position for a top-two finish with two games remaining. The team's resilience and unity have been key factors in their performance, setting them apart from previous seasons.
The incident against PBKS served as a significant reality check for KKR, but it also marked a turning point in their approach to teamwork and mutual support. As they move forward into the playoffs, KKR's strengthened bond and collective spirit could be their most valuable asset.
