Nicholas Pooran Shatters Sixes Records In T20 World Cup Clash
West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran achieved several milestones during his match-winning performance against Afghanistan in the final group stage game of the T20 World Cup 2024 in St Lucia on Tuesday, June 18.
Afghanistan's bowlers faced a formidable challenge as Pooran, who has been in exceptional form since the start of the year, scored 98 off 53 balls. This effort propelled West Indies to a total of 218/5, marking the highest score of the ongoing tournament.
With his 98-run knock, Pooran set a new record for the highest individual score in the T20 World Cup 2024, surpassing USA's Aaron Jones, who had previously scored 94 against Canada in the tournament opener.
Pooran also made history by hitting eight sixes during his innings against Afghanistan. This achievement placed him third for the most sixes in a single T20 World Cup innings, tying with South Africa's Rilee Rossouw.
Chris Gayle holds the record for most sixes in a T20 World Cup innings with 11 sixes against England in 2016. USA's Aaron Jones follows with 10 sixes against Canada earlier in the 2024 edition.
