Nepal's Spirited Fans Capture Hearts At T20 World Cup 2024 Despite Team Loss
Nepal faced a six-wicket defeat against the Netherlands in a Group D match of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday, June 4. Despite the loss, Nepal's supporters at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas, left a lasting impression on everyone present, including the opposition.
Rain delayed the start of the match, and Nepal was bowled out for 106 by a formidable Dutch bowling attack. Tim Pringle and Logan van Beek were instrumental, taking three wickets each for 20 and 18 runs, respectively.

In their chase, Max O'Dowd led the Netherlands with a composed half-century. The Dutch team reached 109/4 with seven balls to spare, overcoming some tense moments along the way.
This match marked Nepal's return to World Cup action since 2014. Captain Rohit Paudel was the top scorer for Nepal with 35 runs from 37 balls. However, the team's batting performance fell short.
Despite the team's struggles and weather interruptions, Nepal's fans brought much-needed energy to the T20 World Cup. Their vocal support stood out in contrast to previous matches played in front of empty stands across the USA and West Indies.
The Netherlands acknowledged this support on social media, praising Nepal's fans for creating an electrifying atmosphere. "To all the Nepal fans who turned up and supported their team whole heartedly, salute! We loved the environment in Dallas," Netherlands Cricket posted on X.

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody commented on how Nepalese fans' passion indicates cricket's growth in Nepal. "The support and passion from the Nepalese fans today in Dallas was infectious. The game is growing rapidly in Nepal," Moody posted on X.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared images showing large crowds watching the match screening in Kathmandu, highlighting widespread interest back home.
After the match, Nepal's cricket team did a lap of honour to thank their supporters. Captain Rohit Paudel expressed his gratitude: "Want to thank all of them (the crowd). Was feeling like we were playing in Nepal. If we do better as batting unit, we can do better."
