GT20 Canada 2024: Nationals And Wolves Secure Crucial Wins, Alter Playoff Landscape
The Toronto Nationals ended the Vancouver Knights' playoff aspirations after Brampton Wolves triumphed over Bangla Tigers in a one-sided match during the second-weekend double-header at the fourth edition of the Global T20 Canada on Saturday, August 3.
There was no shortage of excitement for the crowd at TD Cricket Arena in Brampton. The Wolves floored the Tigers by eight wickets in the first game, while the Nationals held their nerves to secure a stunning 19-run victory over the Knights.

Brampton Wolves delivered a powerful bowling performance and an impressive fightback from skipper David Warner (44 not out) to impose a crushing eight-wicket defeat on Bangla Tigers Mississauga.
Opting to bowl first, Brampton's decision paid off as they bundled out Bangla Tigers for just 79 runs in 13 overs. The Wolves chased down the target with 52 balls remaining.
Brampton now sits third in the standings with six points from five matches, having three wins and two losses. Meanwhile, Bangla Tigers are fourth with six points from three wins and two defeats but trail due to net run rate.
Jack Jarvis struck first for Brampton when an inswinger beat opener Hazratullah Zazai and hit the top of offstump. The next setback came when Rahmanullah Gurbaz played Andrew Tye's delivery straight into Jarvis's hands.
Tye then bowled an inswinging yorker to trap Shakib Al Hasan leg before wicket, leaving Bangla Tigers struggling at 5/3. From there, none of their batters could assert themselves. Pacers Tye and Thomas Draca each took three wickets for the Wolves.
In response, Brampton's chase was led by Warner's aggressive 33-ball unbeaten 44, featuring six fours and a six. Warner formed crucial partnerships - first with Jarvis (11) for 41 runs and then with Beau Webster (23 not out) to guide the Wolves to victory.
The Nationals staged a remarkable comeback against Vancouver Knights after their skipper Usman Khawaja expressed his team's desperation to end their winless streak while electing to field at the toss. Vancouver's Mohammed Amir gave them early momentum with three key wickets.
Canada's rising stars Rishi Joshi and Harsh Thaker also contributed with two wickets each, restricting Nationals to 127/9. Roston Chase was notable among Nationals' batters, scoring a 27-ball 23.
In reply, Scottish captain Richie Berrington scored a blistering 52 off 44 balls, leading Knights' chase before Toronto Nationals turned the game around dramatically. They removed Knights' last seven wickets for just 20 runs, eventually bundling them out for a mere 108.
Romario Shepherd (3/17) and Mohammed Nawaz (2/18) were standout bowlers for Nationals. This result propelled Nationals to second place with seven points from three wins in six games while Knights failed to record any win in GT20 Canada 2024, ending their top-four hopes.
The thrilling matches kept fans on edge throughout the day. Both games showcased exceptional performances from players like David Warner and Richie Berrington, highlighting their skills under pressure.
