Nikolaas Davin Creates History In T20 World Cup 2024 With Unprecedented Retirement
Namibia batter Nikolaas Davin made history in the T20 World Cup 2024 match against England on Saturday, 15 June.
Namibia concluded their T20 World Cup campaign with a loss to England, but Davin's name will be remembered in cricket history. The opener became the first batter in the T20 World Cup to 'retire out'. The 26-year-old, playing his fourth match of the tournament, had a slow start while chasing 126 in 10 overs.

Davin managed to score only 18 runs off his first 16 balls, hitting two boundaries. With Namibia already out of the competition and no incentive to chase the target, they made a strategic move by retiring out the struggling Davin. He exited at the end of the sixth over and was replaced by David Wiese.
Although Namibia did not win the match, the tactic of retiring Davin proved beneficial. His replacement, David Wiese, scored 27 runs off 12 balls. Despite Davin's tough outing with the bat, his name is now etched in cricket folklore.
This decision made Davin only the fourth batter in T20I history to retire out. The others include Hevit Alodin Jackson from France (twice), Sonam Tobgay from Bhutan, and Mustapha Suwareh from Gambia. In all T20s, there have been only 22 instances of batters retiring out.
