Nahid Rana's Five-Wicket Performance Powers Bangladesh In Second Test Against West Indies

Nahid Rana's impressive bowling performance, taking five wickets, has put the visiting team in a strong position on the third day of their second Test against the West Indies. Andre Adams praised Rana's efforts, which were crucial in gaining control of the match.

Starting at 70-1, the West Indies were bowled out for 146. Rana added four more wickets to his tally after dismissing Mikyle Louis (12) on day two. Keacy Carty was the top scorer for the hosts with 40 runs, while Hasan Mahmud supported Rana by taking two wickets for 19 runs. This gave Bangladesh an 18-run lead before their second innings.

Bangladesh faced an early setback when Mahmudul Hasan Joy was dismissed without scoring by Jayden Seales, who had previously taken four wickets. However, Shadman Islam and Mehidy Hasan steadied the innings with scores of 46 and 42 respectively. Both fell to Shamar Joseph, who took two wickets for 70 runs. Jaker Ali's unbeaten 29 helped Bangladesh surpass a 200-run lead.

By stumps, Bangladesh reached 193-5, leading by 211 runs. Jaker Ali and Taijul Islam, who scored nine runs, will resume batting on day four at Sabina Park in Kingston.

The highest successful run-chase at Sabina Park is 211 runs, achieved by the West Indies against Sri Lanka in 2003. This historical context suggests that Bangladesh is well-positioned to level the series over the next two days.

Rana's maiden five-wicket haul was pivotal in this scenario. Head coach Andre Adams acknowledged Rana's significant progress over the past year.

"We knew it was coming at some stage. When you bowl at 150kph you're going to take wickets at some stage. What he has done in the last year is become accurate."

Coach Adams Praises Rana

Adams highlighted Rana's eagerness and speed as key attributes. "He's improved on that more. He is very keen, and he has a lot of pace. We just try to give him some instructions and let his instincts take over."

The coach also emphasized managing Rana's workload due to his youth and speed: "He's a young bowler, he bowls fast, so you have got to look after his bowling loads."

Adams expressed confidence in experienced players like Taskin and Hasan providing guidance to Rana alongside captain Mehidy Hasan.
