MI Emirates Skipper Praises UAE's Young Cricketers For Showcasing Exceptional Talent
Muhammad Waseem, the dynamic batter and captain of the UAE national cricket team, has once again proven to be a pivotal force in the cricketing world, following his exceptional performance in the second season of the DP World International League T20 (ILT20). Waseem's explosive batting led MI Emirates to clinch the title in a season that spanned across the iconic cricket stadiums of Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi.
Over the course of 12 innings, Waseem amassed a total of 321 runs at a striking rate of 148, positioning him fourth on the batting charts for the season. His outstanding performance earned him the Blue Belt – Best UAE Player – for the second year in a row. Among his notable innings was a resilient 89 off 62 balls against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, which secured an eight-wicket win for MI Emirates and kept them in contention from the onset.

Reflecting on his team's success and the emergence of young UAE cricketers like Ali Naseer, Zuhaib Zubair, and Muhammad Jawadullah, Waseem expressed his joy. He highlighted the DP World ILT20 as a significant platform for showcasing and honing local talent, emphasizing the league's role in bridging the gap between potential and high-level exposure.
"The DP World ILT20 is one of the best leagues in the world, so it is amazing to see them perform to their potential. They are proof that we have the talent, and all we need is the exposure and the experience," Waseem remarked, underscoring the importance of the league in the development of cricket in the UAE.
Comparing the team's journey to their victory this season to the previous one, Waseem shared his satisfaction with how MI Emirates rectified past mistakes and dominated in all key aspects of the game. He attributed a significant part of their success to the contribution of experienced players like Trent Boult, Dwayne Bravo, and Kieron Pollard. Waseem praised their ability to integrate seamlessly with the team, irrespective of their stature in the cricketing world.
Waseem's favorite moment of the tournament was his decisive innings in the final match, where he scored 43 runs off just 24 balls, setting the stage for his team's victory. "I had a few good knocks this season, but the final was definitely my favourite innings. I am glad I could contribute to the team in a crucial situation," Waseem said, reflecting on his performance.
As the captain of the UAE's national team and a key player for MI Emirates, Waseem's achievements in the DP World ILT20 not only underscore his personal excellence but also highlight the promising future of cricket in the UAE. With young talents making their mark and seasoned players guiding the way, the UAE's cricketing landscape is set for an exciting era of growth and success.
