MS Dhoni To See Salary Cut In IPL 2025 If Retained As Uncapped Player
MS Dhoni might play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025 as an uncapped player. The former Indian captain could be included in CSK's retention list under this status.
The CSK CEO, Kasinath Viswanathan, has asked the BCCI to reinstate the uncapped rule from 2008-2021. This rule classified players retired from international cricket for five or more years as uncapped. Although it was scrapped due to franchise concerns, it might return before IPL 2025.

If Dhoni plays as an uncapped player, his IPL salary could see a significant reduction. Under current rules, uncapped players can be retained for INR 4 crores at most. Dhoni was earning Rs 12 crore at CSK in his last contract, which means the former India captain will have a 66.67% reduction in his salary, a total loss of 8 crore.
Dhoni himself has expressed curiosity about how things will unfold for him next season. He mentioned that without command pressure this time, it might be easier for him at 43 years old. The veteran relinquished captaincy last season and handed over the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The potential reinstatement of the uncapped rule could significantly impact Dhoni's role and salary in IPL 2025. If the BCCI agrees to bring back this rule, it would allow retired players like Dhoni to participate as uncapped players, affecting their financial terms with their teams.
MS Dhoni will likely play another season for CSK in the upcoming season, and the franchise is set to retain him.
