MS Dhoni Uncertain About Playing Future With Chennai Super Kings In IPL 2025

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter, has provided an update on his future with Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He mentioned that there is ample time to decide on his participation in IPL 2025.

There has been much speculation about Dhoni's retirement from cricket. At 43 years old, he has chosen a cautious approach, opting to wait and see before making any decisions about the next IPL season.

Dhoni wants to observe the rules and regulations related to player retention before deciding. This comes as teams and league authorities plan for auctions and retention strategies.

Speaking at an event in Hyderabad, Dhoni said, "There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court," as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

The most successful captain for CSK emphasized that any decision must benefit the team. There might be a rule allowing only four players to be retained.

Waiting for Formalised Rules

"So, once the rules and regulations get formalised, I will take a call, but needs to be in the best interest of the team," Dhoni added. Reports indicate that discussions between him and the franchise are ongoing regarding plans for next season.

Performance Despite Challenges

In 2024, Dhoni played after undergoing knee surgery. Despite occasional struggles and limping on the field, his determination to entertain fans remained undeterred.

Batting lower down the order with limited balls left, Dhoni scored 161 runs in 11 innings. He averaged 53.66 with a strike rate of 220.54, hitting 14 fours and 13 sixes, with his highest score being 37*.

CSK's Playoff Miss

However, CSK narrowly missed qualifying for the playoffs due to a loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). They finished fifth with 14 points from seven wins and seven losses each.
