Yashasvi Jaiswal Breaks Brendon McCullum's Record For Most Sixes In A Calendar Year During Test Match

Yashasvi Jaiswal set a new record on Saturday, November 23, by surpassing Brendon McCullum's previous mark for the most sixes in a calendar year in Test cricket. This achievement occurred during the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia.

Jaiswal hit two sixes on day two of the India vs Australia Test in Perth, overtaking McCullum's record of 33 sixes in a year. This milestone made him the player with the most sixes in a calendar year in Test cricket.

Jaiswal Breaks Record for Most Sixes in Tests

The record-breaking moment came when Jaiswal hit Australian spinner Nathan Lyon's delivery over long-on for his second six of the innings. Earlier, he had equalled McCullum's tally by flicking Mitchell Starc for a maximum before surpassing it a few overs later.

Despite getting out for zero in the first innings, Jaiswal regained form as conditions improved at Perth. He aggressively countered Australian bowlers, showcasing his attacking prowess.

In partnership with Rahul, Jaiswal helped India extend their lead against Australia after being bowled out for 150 and dismissing the hosts for 104. Their partnership was crucial as India's lead grew significantly during day three at Optus Stadium.

With an initial lead of 46 runs, both Rahul and Jaiswal scored half-centuries and remained not out. By the end of day three, India's lead had exceeded 200 runs. During this period, Jaiswal hit two sixes to break the existing record.

Jaiswal debuted for India in 2023 with a century during their West Indies tour. Although he started poorly in South Africa, he secured his place as an opener with consecutive double centuries against England at home.

Since resuming play in September for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle, Jaiswal has consistently performed well. He has scored four fifties and numerous sixes, leading him to top the list for most sixes in Tests in 2024.
