Most Expensive Players In IPL Auctions From 2008 To 2024: A Comprehensive Overview

The upcoming IPL Auction is set to feature over 500 players, with more than 200 positions available. This includes 70 spots for overseas players. The auction will occur on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

In total, 574 players are listed for the IPL Auction. Among them, 366 are Indian and 208 are from other countries. Historically, franchises have spent significantly to secure top talent during these auctions.

Top Purchases in IPL Auctions Since 2008

Since the inaugural player auction in 2008, teams have been willing to spend large sums to acquire their desired players. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the highest-paid player in that first auction. Over the years, various players have held this title.

Yuvraj Singh and Ben Stokes stand out as the only players to be the most expensive at two different auctions. In the history of IPL Auctions, Indian players have been the top earners seven times out of seventeen auctions.

Foreign players frequently emerge as the highest earners in IPL Auctions. Recently, Australian bowlers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc surpassed the Rs 20 Crore mark. Below is a list of the costliest buys at each IPL Auction:
