Morne Morkel Appointed As India's Bowling Coach On Gautam Gambhir's Recommendation
The Indian cricket team is poised to appoint a permanent bowling coach following the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. Reports indicate that the BCCI has fulfilled Gautam Gambhir's request, and the final member of the coaching staff may be confirmed by the Bangladesh Test series.
During the Sri Lanka tour, Sairaj Bahutule served as the interim bowling coach. Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar were assistant coaches alongside Gambhir, while T Dilip handled fielding duties. Although Dilip is expected to continue in his role, Bahutule's tenure will conclude with this series.

Former South African pacer Morne Morkel is anticipated to take over as the permanent bowling coach. Morkel, who played under Gambhir at KKR and later collaborated with him at LSG, is a strong candidate for the position. Gambhir recommended Morkel, and it appears his suggestion has been accepted.
Despite initial reservations about foreign coaches, BCCI's appointments of Ten Doeschate and now Morkel have materialised due to Gambhir's persistence. According to Cricbuzz, Morkel will join the Indian team ahead of the Bangladesh Test series in September.
Bahutule was appointed temporarily and is likely to be relieved soon. However, Morkel's appointment has sparked concerns regarding spin coaching. None of Gambhir's current staff specialise in spin bowling, which might necessitate hiring a dedicated spin-bowling coach.
The Indian team has shown promise under Gambhir's leadership, having already secured the T20I series against Sri Lanka. With the ODI series approaching, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have arrived in Sri Lanka to join their teammates.
Morkel’s potential appointment signifies a shift towards incorporating international expertise into India's coaching framework. This move could enhance India's bowling capabilities across formats.
The decision to bring in a specialist spin-bowling coach would address any gaps left by Morkel’s focus on pace bowling. This holistic approach aims to strengthen all aspects of India's bowling attack.
As India prepares for upcoming challenges, these strategic coaching appointments reflect a commitment to excellence and adaptability in international cricket.
