Mohammed Shami Makes His Long-Awaited Return In Ranji Trophy For Bengal: Performance Insights
Mohammed Shami, the Indian fast bowler, has made a much-anticipated return to cricket after nearly a year away. His absence followed an injury sustained during the ICC World Cup 2023 final, which required surgery and extensive rehabilitation. Now fully recovered, Shami is back in action.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) announced earlier this week that Shami would participate in Bengal's Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh. The match commenced on Wednesday, November 13, in Indore, marking Shami's return to competitive cricket.

Shami took the new ball for Bengal but struggled to make an impact. He bowled ten overs without taking a wicket. Mohammed Kaif was the only Bengal bowler to claim a wicket as Madhya Pradesh reached 103 for 1 by the end of day one. Rajat Patidar remained unbeaten on 41, while Subhransu Senapati scored 44 runs.
Bengal batted first and were dismissed for 228 runs. Shahbaz Ahmed top-scored with an impressive 92 runs, but other batsmen failed to contribute significantly as Madhya Pradesh bowlers excelled with precise bowling. Shami managed only two runs with the bat.
Shami's return is significant for both Bengal and India. Although he didn't perform at his peak initially, expectations are high for him to regain form in the coming weeks. Over the years, Shami has been a key player for India and was considered for India's BGT squad but missed out due to insufficient match fitness.
