Mohammed Shami Criticises Sanjay Manjrekar Over Comments On His IPL 2025 Auction Value
Mohammed Shami recently took a sharp jab at Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian cricketer and current commentator. This occurred on Thursday, November 21. Shami, who has just returned to competitive cricket after recovering from an injury, didn't hold back in his criticism of Manjrekar.
Shami's return to cricket has been marked by impressive performances. He played a solitary match in the Ranji Trophy, where he took seven wickets. Despite this, Sanjay Manjrekar speculated that Shami's value might decrease in the upcoming IPL 2025 auction due to fitness concerns.

Manjrekar expressed his views on Star Sports, suggesting that while teams would be interested in Shami, his injury history could deter them from bidding high. "There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami's injury history - and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover - there's always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season," he said.
Unamused by these remarks, Shami responded on Instagram with a sarcastic post directed at Manjrekar. "Baba Ki Jay Hoooo. Thoda sa gyan apne future ke liye bhi bacha lo kaam ayeaga Sanjay G. Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile," Shami wrote, implying that Manjrekar should save some wisdom for himself.
Currently, Shami is part of the Bengal team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Although there were discussions about fast-tracking him into the Indian team for the Australia series, the BCCI decided not to rush his return.
In IPL 2024, Shami did not participate; however, he had an outstanding performance for Gujarat Titans in the previous IPL cycle. The Titans had acquired him for Rs 6.25 crore during the IPL 2022 mega auction.
As the IPL 2025 auction nears, Shami is among the marquee players after being released by Gujarat Titans. His recent form suggests he remains a valuable asset despite concerns over his fitness.
The situation highlights how player fitness can influence auction dynamics in cricket leagues like IPL. While past performances are crucial, franchises often weigh them against potential injury risks when deciding on bids.
This ongoing exchange between Shami and Manjrekar underscores the tensions that can arise between players and commentators over public predictions and analyses.
