Mohammed Shami Transfers To Sunrisers Hyderabad For INR 10 Crore In IPL 2025 Auction

Mohammed Shami, the renowned Indian fast bowler, will don new colours in IPL 2025. Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired him for a substantial INR 10 crore at the recent mega auction. Shami, who had a base price of INR 2 crore, attracted fierce bidding before Hyderabad secured his services.

The bidding war for Shami began with Kolkata Knight Riders. Chennai Super Kings soon joined, followed by a late bid from Lucknow Super Giants. Ultimately, Sunrisers Hyderabad, under Kavya Maran's leadership, outbid all to secure the seasoned pacer.

Shami's transition to Hyderabad follows an impressive tenure with Gujarat Titans. He was instrumental in their bowling lineup during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In IPL 2022, he took 20 wickets and improved to 28 wickets in IPL 2023, affirming his status as a consistent performer.

An ankle injury sidelined Shami during IPL 2024, prompting Gujarat Titans to release him. Their decision not to use the Right to Match (RTM) option benefited Sunrisers Hyderabad significantly.

Since debuting with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2013, Shami has played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans. With 127 wickets in 109 matches, the 34-year-old is among the league's most experienced players.

Known for swinging the new ball and delivering deadly yorkers at crucial moments, Shami adds significant strength to Hyderabad's bowling attack.

Return from Injury and Future Prospects

Recently recovering from his ankle injury, Shami made a remarkable comeback in cricket. Playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, he took seven wickets against Madhya Pradesh, showcasing his return to peak form. His fitness and rhythm make him vital for Sunrisers Hyderabad both on and off the field.
