Mohammad Nabi Announces Retirement From ODI Cricket Following Champions Trophy 2025

Mohammad Nabi, the renowned all-rounder from Afghanistan, has declared his intention to retire from One Day International (ODI) cricket following the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Despite stepping away from this format, Nabi will continue to participate in T20 internationals.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has confirmed Nabi's decision through its chief executive, Naseeb Khan. This announcement signifies a significant moment for Afghan cricket as one of its key players prepares to exit the 50-over game.

Nabi to Retire from ODIs After 2025

Nabi has been a pivotal figure in Afghanistan's cricket journey, having played 165 ODIs. Throughout his career, he accumulated 3,549 runs with an average of 27.3 and claimed 171 wickets. His contributions have been crucial not just statistically but also symbolically for Afghanistan's presence on the international stage.

His decision to retire comes during an ongoing ODI series against Bangladesh. In the first match on November 6, Nabi demonstrated his value by stabilising the innings when Afghanistan was struggling at 71/5. His experience proved vital in turning the game around for his team.

Although Nabi is retiring from ODIs, he will remain active in T20 cricket. "After the Champions Trophy, what I understand is that he is expected to continue his T20 career, and that is the plan until now," stated Naseeb Khan.

Nabi's retirement marks a transition period for Afghanistan's team. However, fans can still look forward to witnessing his skills in T20 matches where he continues to be a valuable asset.

Looking Ahead to the Champions Trophy

As Afghanistan gears up for the Champions Trophy, all eyes will be on Nabi as he embarks on his final ODI journey. This tournament will serve as a fitting farewell for a player who has been integral to Afghanistan's cricket narrative.

"Yes, Nabi is retiring from ODIs after the Champions Trophy, and he informed the board about his desire," confirmed ACB's Naseeb Khan. "He told me a few months back that he wants to end his ODI career after the Champions Trophy, and we welcome his decision."
