Australian Legend Michael Clarke Roped In As LPL 2024 Brand Ambassador

Michael Clarke, a legendary figure in Australian cricket, has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024. The announcement was made by the T20 league's organisers on Wednesday, July 3.

The former Australian captain, who led his team to victory in the 2015 World Cup, will be present to witness and commentate on the exciting matches of the five-team tournament. The LPL commenced on July 1 and will continue until July 21, 2024.

Clarke LPL 2024's New Brand Ambassador

Clarke joins a prestigious group of LPL brand ambassadors from previous editions, including cricket legends Vivian Richards, Wasim Akram, and Sanath Jayasuriya. His addition brings further star power to the tournament.

Reflecting on his career, Clarke's journey to greatness began with a stunning century on debut against India in Bengaluru in 2004. Over more than a decade-long international career, he amassed 8643 runs in 115 Tests and 7981 runs in 245 ODIs.

Expressing his excitement about returning to Sri Lanka for the LPL, Clarke said, "It's an honour to be in Sri Lanka for the LPL and I have very fond memories here as one of my first Australian tours was an Under-19 World Cup in this country."

"I loved it as a player and now have the opportunity to be a brand ambassador for a wonderful tournament," he added. Clarke is eager to see emerging talents who could become future stars of Sri Lankan cricket.

Official Welcome

Anil Mohan Sankhdhar, Founder and CEO of Innovative Production Group, which holds the official rights for the LPL, warmly welcomed Clarke. "We are thrilled to have Michael Clarke join us as the brand ambassador for LPL 2024," he stated.

"His vast experience, leadership skills, and unwavering passion for the game will undoubtedly inspire players and fans. We look forward to his contributions to making this season a truly memorable one," Mohan Sankhdhar added.

Tournament Structure

The LPL features five franchises: Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Sixers, Galle Marvels, Jaffna Kings, and Kandy. These teams will compete against each other twice across three iconic venues: Colombo, Dambulla, and Kandy. The tournament will culminate with playoffs following three weeks of intense action.

Clarke's involvement is expected to add significant value to the league by inspiring both players and fans alike. His presence underscores the importance of nurturing young talent through such tournaments.
