Michael Clarke Questions Australia's Decision To Rest Key Players In ODI Series Against Pakistan
Michael Clarke, the former Australian cricket captain, expressed his confusion over Australia's choice to rest key Test players during the crucial third ODI against Pakistan. He believed that with the series tied at 1-1, experienced players should have participated in the deciding match.
Australia's decision to rest senior players in Perth led to an eight-wicket loss against Pakistan, resulting in a home series defeat on November 10. Clarke voiced his opinion on The Big Sports Breakfast, suggesting that players involved in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy could have played since there were nearly 11 days before the Test series against India began.

The first Test match against India is set to commence on November 22 in Perth. Clarke mentioned that if Australia had secured victory in the first two ODIs, resting key players would have been understandable. However, with the series undecided, he felt it showed a lack of concern for losing.
"I'm just a bit confused, so 11 days between now and the first Test (Perth Test), why can't the Aussie boys who are part of this Test series play in the one-dayer? If Australia had won the first two games, then you can understand why they rest their big fish, but it was series on the line. I feel like we obviously don't care about losing that series," Clarke said.
Clarke further commented on how this decision might affect fan interest in one-day cricket. "If you're not going to care, we're not going to care. You can't expect the fans to want to come and watch one-day cricket. We are bagging one-day cricket, no one is turning up, hasn't got the interest," he added.
In the third ODI against Pakistan, notable players like Pat Cummins, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith, and Josh Hazlewood were rested with an eye on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Series Outcome and Future Fixtures
The Test series between India and Australia will begin on November 22 in Perth. Adelaide and Brisbane will host subsequent matches. The Boxing Day Test is scheduled for Melbourne, while Sydney will see the final Test starting January 3.
Australia initially won their opening ODI match against Pakistan by two wickets in Melbourne but lost the next two games. This allowed Pakistan to achieve a historic series win on Australian soil.
The current ODI World Cup champions will continue their white-ball campaign without some senior players as they face Pakistan in a three-match T20I series starting Thursday (November 14).
