Mark Wood Reveals Anderson's Role In His Five-Wicket Triumph
Mark Wood shared how a conversation with James Anderson inspired his remarkable wicket haul in England's final Test against West Indies. The Durham bowler took five wickets in one spell for the first time in his Test career, helping England complete a 3-0 series sweep at Edgbaston.
Wood had struggled to make an impact during the morning session on day three of the third Test. However, after lunch, he dismissed five West Indies batsmen in just 21 balls, conceding only nine runs. This performance helped bowl out the Windies for 175 runs.

Ben Stokes then hit the fastest half-century by an England player in Test history to secure a dominant victory. Wood credited his change in fortunes to advice from his recently retired former teammate. "I was in a bit of a bad fettle actually at lunch, and I was wondering if it was something I was doing wrong or if I wasn't quite getting the right length," he said.
"I had a great conversation with Jimmy [Anderson], and a couple of the other backroom staff, and he just said, rather than thinking about the outcome, to start thinking about the skill element. That first wicket gave me a lot of confidence, and I was able to push on from there."
Stokes praised Wood's bowling performance, highlighting its difficulty. "I think that's one of the best reverse swing performances I've seen in a long time," Stokes added. "I know bowling at 93 miles per hour is tough, but when it is reverse swinging as well, it's going to be even tougher."
Meanwhile, Windies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite expressed disappointment over his team's performance throughout the series. "It was a tough series," he said. "We didn't show a lot of discipline with the ball. We let them off the hook a lot of times, and they were scoring way too fast."
Windies' Struggles
Brathwaite also noted their batting issues in the second innings of the last two Tests. "We didn't get enough second-innings runs in the last two Test matches," he admitted.
The series highlighted England's dominance and showcased individual brilliance from players like Wood and Stokes. With this victory, England demonstrated their strength and depth in Test cricket.
The insights from experienced players like Anderson continue to play a crucial role in nurturing new talent within the team.
This win not only boosted team morale but also set high expectations for future performances.
