T20 World Cup 2024: Marcus Stoinis Attributes Match-Winning Performance To IPL Stint
Australia's Marcus Stoinis has expressed gratitude to the IPL after his impressive performance against Namibia in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday, June 16.
Stoinis delivered a stellar innings, scoring 59 runs off just 29 balls, aiding Australia in securing a crucial victory against Scotland during the group stages. His innings included nine fours and two sixes, bringing Australia closer to their target. Ultimately, Australia triumphed by five wickets, advancing to the Super Eights with an unblemished record in the group stages.

The outstanding performance earned Stoinis the Player of the Match award. Reflecting on his form, Stoinis credited his IPL experience for his batting prowess. "I've been playing consistently, getting chances over the last 3-4 months and in the IPL, that's helped me keep up with the form and get the runs," he stated post-match.
Stoinis has been a regular player for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024. His role with LSG has evidently sharpened his skills, which he has successfully carried over to his performances for Australia.
During the match, Stoinis formed a vital partnership with Travis Head, who scored 68 runs off 49 balls. This collaboration was pivotal in steering Australia towards victory. Despite a challenging start to their run chase, the duo managed to stabilize the innings. Stoinis praised Head for his significant contribution and credited him for shifting the momentum.
"There was a strong breeze and that was the area to hit; the pitch was really good and I thought the Scots batted well. We (himself and Head) were just talking about batting along, taking on one bowler and I think he changed the game with those three sixes," Stoinis added.
Australia is now in Group 1 of the Super Eights and will face India, Afghanistan, and likely Bangladesh in the next stage.
