Kuwait Gears Up For DP World ILT20 Development Tournament To Boost Local Talent

The Kuwait Cricket Board has unveiled plans for a groundbreaking cricket tournament, the DP World ILT20 Development Tournament – Kuwait, marking a significant step forward in the sport's development in the region.

Slated for September 2025, this event aims to be a turning point, especially for local cricket talent, as it will be held at the picturesque Sulaibiya Cricket Ground. This tournament is designed to serve as a bridge for Kuwait's cricketing talents, offering them a platform to transition to the international stage, specifically to DP World ILT20 in Dubai this December.

The initiative reflects a concerted effort to nurture homegrown talent and integrate them into the global cricketing fraternity, which already sees participation from some of the sport's biggest names.

The competition will spotlight four teams: Boubyan Warriors, Failaika Guardians, Pearl Strikers, and Kuwait Falcons. A total of 60 players will partake, including 19 national team players under contract, 10 junior emerging talents, and a cadre of domestic cricket's top performers.

The selection of these players is the responsibility of the Kuwait Cricket High Performance Committee, which relies on specific performance metrics to make its choices.

With 14 thrilling matches on the agenda, the players will have ample opportunity to prove their mettle, showcasing their skills, consistency, and readiness for higher levels of competition. The tournament is not just a competition; it's a platform to elevate Kuwait's cricket standards and spotlight local talents.

The tournament's drafting process begins tomorrow, with the official list of selected players to be announced on the Kuwait Cricket Council's (KCC) social media channels. Following this, the announcement of team leadership, including head coaches, captains, and managers, will take place on August 7.

On August 8, a pivotal draft event at the Sulaibiya Cricket Ground will see each team solidify their 15-player squad. This event, under the guidance of each team's coach, captain, and manager, is critical for assembling teams that will compete vigorously throughout the tournament.

A spokesperson from the KCC expressed enthusiasm about the tournament's potential impact: "This is more than just a tournament. It's a launchpad for talent, a celebration of cricket, and a bold step forward in Kuwait's journey on the international cricket map."
