Gayle Confident In Kohli's Comeback For T20 World Cup 2024 Final
Chris Gayle, the former West Indies opener, believes that Virat Kohli remains a "special" player despite his current form struggles in the T20 World Cup 2024. Gayle insists that one "cannot write off" Kohli.
Kohli entered the tournament after a successful IPL season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, he has found it challenging to score runs, accumulating just 75 runs in seven innings, including two ducks.

Despite his poor performance in the T20 World Cup, Indian captain Rohit Sharma, former players, and head coach Rahul Dravid have shown faith in Kohli. They believe he will perform well in the final against South Africa.
Gayle, who has played alongside Kohli for RCB, also supports him. He expects Kohli to bounce back and shine in the crucial T20 World Cup final against South Africa.
"These things happen to superstars or world-class players such as Virat. We know how dominant he has been in previous World Cups," Gayle said during a media conference.
"A bad patch can happen to anybody. But the good thing about it is he is in the final. Sometimes big players can be called upon and step up and win the actual game for the team as well."
"So you cannot write off a player like Virat Kohli without a doubt. We know how special he is, so we just have to wait and see what he delivers tomorrow."
Kohli's IPL Performance vs T20 World Cup Struggles
Kohli ended IPL 2024 with impressive stats, earning the Orange Cap by scoring 741 runs at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69. He also hit a century and five half-centuries during the season.
However, his performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup has been underwhelming. His highest score is 37, and he has been striking at 100 throughout the tournament.
Upcoming Final Match
In seven matches, Kohli has struggled to deliver consistent performances while opening alongside Rohit Sharma. His average stands at 10.71 for this tournament.
Kohli aims to regain his form and make a significant impact when India faces South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 Final on Saturday (June 29) at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
