KL Rahul's Controversial Dismissal Ignites Criticism From Former India Players During Border-Gavaskar Trophy
India's start in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been disappointing, with the team struggling at 51 for 4 by the end of the first session on Day 1 in Perth. The batting performance has been lacklustre, but a controversial decision involving KL Rahul has caught everyone's attention.
During the match against Australia, KL Rahul was declared out by third umpire Richard Illingworth under contentious circumstances. A delivery from Mitchell Starc narrowly missed Rahul's bat, and although the on-field umpire initially ruled Not Out, Australia requested a DRS review.

The third umpire reviewed the footage and surprisingly overturned the decision, declaring Rahul out. This left both commentators and fans bewildered. The Snickometer showed a spike as the ball passed close to Rahul's bat edge, but replays indicated his bat had only hit his pad.
From one angle, it seemed like the ball moved away from Rahul's bat at a critical moment. Despite this, another angle led to a quick decision to rule him out. Many questioned whether this decision was justified given the available evidence.
Several former Indian players have criticised the umpiring decision. They believe it was made hastily without sufficient evidence. Robin Uthappa, Murali Kartik, and Dodda Ganesh were among those expressing shock at what they saw as poor officiating.
"You don't have to rush a decision when you have so many angles to review. Especially if you are overturning the on-field umpire's call," said Harsha Bhogle, highlighting concerns about how technology was used.
"Third umpire asked for another angle which wasn't provided. I'd assume he'd only ask for another angle if he wasn't sure. Then if he wasn't sure, why did he overturn the on field not out call? Poor use of technology and proper protocol not followed. KL hard done by," Wasim Jaffer wrote.
Dodda Ganesh described the decision as diabolical, while Robin Uthappa expressed disbelief over what he considered poor umpiring standards.
Aakash Chopra also criticised the decision, noting that it was surprising to see an on-field call being overturned without conclusive proof. Murali Kartik sarcastically remarked about missing camera angles during crucial moments despite having numerous cameras available.
The incident has sparked widespread debate about umpiring standards and technology use in cricket matches. Many feel that such decisions should be made with more caution and thoroughness to avoid unfair outcomes for players like KL Rahul who work hard at the crease.
