IPL 2024: KKR Vs SRH Match Sparks Meme Fest Following Sunrisers' Batting Debacle

Fans took to Twitter and social media to share a plethora of memes poking fun at Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) following their dismal batting performance against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024 Qualifier 1, held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 21.

SRH, touted to have one of the most formidable batting line-ups in the tournament, were bundled out for a below-par 159, courtesy of a sensational bowling spell by KKR's Mitchell Starc.

Starc, the IPL's costliest buy at Rs 24.75 crore, lived up to the expectations by delivering a devastating three-wicket burst in the powerplay, which set the tone for KKR's dominance. He dismissed Travis Head, Nitish Reddy, and Shahbaz Ahmed, leaving SRH reeling at 39/3 early in their innings. This performance drew a flurry of reactions on social media.

One meme took a humorous jab at Pat Cummins, highlighting how KKR's mentor Gautam Gambhir seemingly 'silenced' Cummins, drawing a parallel to Cummins' role in silencing the Indian crowd during the 50-over World Cup final last year. The caption humorously credited Gambhir for playing a psychological game against the Australian pacer.

Another meme pointed out Indian captain Rohit Sharma hypothetically realizing Travis Head's vulnerability to left-arm pacers, suggesting Rohit might now consider using Arshdeep Singh against him. The meme was a playful nod to Head's poor show against Starc and how it might influence future match strategies.

A third meme depicted Indian fans speculating what could have happened if Travis Head had been dismissed for a duck in the World Cup final, similar to his dismissal by Starc in this match. The meme humorously imagined a different outcome for the World Cup final, had Head fallen early.

Kavya Maran, co-owner of SRH, was also not spared. One meme captured her agony as SRH's batting line-up crumbled to 39/4 within the first five overs, highlighting her visible frustration as captured by the broadcasters' cameras.

Hitzfeed Joins In

Hitzfeed joined the meme frenzy with two notable contributions. One meme highlighted Sunil Narine's all-round performance for KKR this IPL, emphasizing his significant contributions with both bat and ball.

Another meme took a jab at Mitchell Starc, who had faced criticism throughout the season for not justifying his hefty price tag. The meme humorously celebrated Starc's redemption as a 'big match player' following his match-winning spell in the crucial qualifier.

Acknowledging KKR's Bowling Brilliance

Despite the barrage of memes, fans acknowledged the brilliance of KKR's bowling attack, particularly Starc's fiery spell, which played a pivotal role in dismantling SRH's batting order and securing a crucial victory for KKR.
